Pesepay vs Paynow: choosing a payment gateway for your website
Pesepay and Paynow are the two gateways most Zimbabwean businesses consider for taking payments on a website. Both work; the right one depends on your customers and how you want to be paid.
What both do
Both give you a hosted checkout page where customers pay with mobile money or cards, and both notify your website when a payment succeeds. Both offer a test environment, so a website can be built and tested before you go live.
What to compare
- Payment methods: check that EcoCash, InnBucks, OneMoney, Visa and Mastercard are all covered for your account.
- Currencies: USD only, or USD and ZiG.
- Fees per method, and whether there is a fixed charge per card payment.
- Settlement: how often money reaches your bank, and any settlement fees.
- Support: how quickly they respond when a payment is stuck.
Fees and terms change, so compare the current merchant agreements side by side rather than relying on old figures online.
What we use and why
We build with Pesepay by default because its checkout covers mobile money and cards in one place and it supports USD and ZiG. If you already have a Paynow merchant account, we can integrate Paynow instead. The website side is similar either way.

Ask on WhatsAppCan I switch payment gateways later?
Yes. The gateway is a small part of the website. Switching means new keys and a small code change, not a new website.
Can I use both Pesepay and Paynow?
You can, but most small businesses are better off with one, so reconciliation and support stay simple.
